Who we are
Discover.London is a service provided by Farcrest Limited (referred to below, where the context provides, as “us” or “we”).
Personal data we collect and the reasons for collecting it
We collect and process your data on the basis of your consent, the need to do so to fulfil any contract between us, or in furtherance of legitimate interests, depending on the situation, and mindful of the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
We collect the data you enter into parts of our website, for example the individual event descriptions, which have forms with titles such as “Message Us” or “Questions?”
We also collect data if visitors choose to leave comments for publication on our website. In such cases we collect the data entered into the comments form. To help us defend against spam we also collect the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string.
If you create an account on our website, we store your login information including username and email address. If you purchase a ticket or sign up for an event, we will collect the information we need to process and fulfil the order for you.
If you choose to subscribe to our opt-in newsletter, we collect your name and email address, so that we can personalise and send you the newsletter, and the time and method of your sign-up so we can be sure our list is permission-based.
For analytics purposes, to defend against ‘bots’, and so we can improve the services we offer to you and other visitors, we may also collect information that web browsers, mobile devices and servers typically make available such as IP addresses, browser types, operating systems, and unique device identifiers.
Users who choose to leave a public comment on the site are given the option to accept cookies which save their name, email address and website. These cookies last for a year unless you clear them beforehand and are to facilitate you leaving further comments without having to fill in your details again.
Users who create an account on the site and log in will receive a number of cookies which:
- Determine if your browser accepts cookies. No personal data is contained in this cookie and the cookie disappears when your browser is closed.
- Save your login information – these cookies last for two days, or until your clear them, unless you select the “Remember me” option in which case they last for two weeks. Login cookies are removed when you log out of your account.
- Record your screen display choices – these cookies last for a year or until you clear them.
How long we keep your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This gives us the ability to approve further comments you make automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website we also store the personal information provided in an individual user profile. This information can be seen by the user themselves and by authorised website administrators. Other than their username, which cannot be changed, users may edit, or delete their personal information at any time. Unless otherwise deleted or edited, we may retain this data indefinitely. This is so we can recognise you if and when you return to the site.
How we share your data
Discover.London is hosted by WordPress.com, a service of Automattic Inc., which serves more than 20 billion web pages monthly worldwide. Because they are our website hosts, information that a user enters into our site, such as details provided at site registration, in comments, order and shipping information, or text entered in comment forms is shared by default with Automattic, which also collects information that web browsers, mobile devices and servers typically make available such as IP addresses, browser types, operating systems and unique device identifiers. You can read more about how Automattic uses this information at: https://automattic.com/privacy-notice/
Discover.London uses WooCommerce (another service of Automattic) and reputable payment gateways with whom they have partnered to process your payment and manage certain aspects of your orders. When you enter your payment details on our site, your card number and security code are not shared with us and but are sent directly to WooCommerce and/or its payment partner.
More information about how WooCommerce processes your payment securely can be found at: https://woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-security-faq/
Other details of your order are also shared with WooCommerce and/or its payment partners to the extent required to manage and fulfil your order.
Forms on our site with titles such as “Message Us” or “Questions?” allow users to submit questions to us regarding a particular event, and site users may also raise such questions via our email address or “Contact Us” page. If the event is being organised by an organiser other than Discover.London (in which case this will be clearly identified in the event information provided), sufficient details may be shared with the organiser to enable them to provide an answer to the questions.
Our opt-in-only email newsletter is partially provided using the services of MailChimp, a member of the Intuit group of companies. When you subscribe via the sign-up page on our website, your name and email address will be stored on their servers by default. They may also store some further information such as the date and time of your subscription, your confirmation of subscription, and links, if any, that you click in our newsletter. You can read more about MailChimp’s and Intuit’s privacy policies here.
Your rights over your data
If you created an account on Discover.London, placed an order, or have left comments on the site, you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This may exclude data we are obliged to keep for legitimate administrative, legal, or security purposes. Please see our Contact Us page for ways to contact us with these requests.
